Abstract

This study aimed to develop a magic box-based learning media on the topic of biodiversity and to evaluate students' responses to the media. The research employed a development method using the 4D model, which includes four stages: Define, Design, Development, and Disseminate. However, this study was limited to the Development stage due to specific considerations. The instruments used in the research included a needs analysis questionnaire, a student characteristics questionnaire, expert validation sheets, and a student response questionnaire. The validation process was carried out by three experts—two biology education lecturers  and one biology teacher. The validation results indicated that the media was valid and suitable for trial use. The trial was conducted in June 2025 with 18 tenth-grade students from SMA Syarif Hidayatullah Grati. Based on the development results, the magic box learning media received a material validation score of 78%, a media validation score of 90%, and a practitioner validation score of 96%. In addition, the student response questionnaire showed that the media’s attractiveness reached 84%. In conclusion, the magic box learning media was found to be valid, engaging, and feasible for use as a supplementary tool in the biology learning process, particularly in teaching biodiversity topics
