The Effect of Crossword Puzzle Media on Students' Conceptual Understanding and Learning Motivation in Ecosystem Studies for the 1st Grade at Al Aziz Senior High School

Abstract
The learning process plays an important role for students to succeed in learning. Teachers are expected to be able to teach well, present material interestingly, and increase students' enthusiasm for learning. This study aims to determine the effect of implementing crossword puzzle media on students' conceptual understanding and learning motivation in ecosystem material for grade X at Al Aziz High School Bangil. The type of research used is quasi-experimental research with the One Group Posttest-Pretest Design approach. Data collection techniques through concept understanding tests and learning motivation questionnaires. The sample of this study was 50 students divided into 2 groups, namely 25 students in the experimental class and 25 students in the control class. The research data were analyzed using the Shapiro-Wilk test with a sig. value of 0.183> 0.05 for the control class and a sig. value of 0.0133> 0.05 for the experimental class, so that both data were declared normally distributed. The homogeneity test used the Levene Test, with a sig. value of 0.076> 0.05 for the pretest and a sig. value of 0.601> 0.05 for the posttest so that the data were declared homogeneous. Hypothesis testing used the Independent Samples t-Test with a sig. value of 0.000 <0.05, indicating that there is an effect of the application of crossword puzzle media on students' conceptual understanding and learning motivation. The learning motivation questionnaire showed the control class with an average of 76.2 and the experimental class with an average of 81.2. So, it is concluded that there is an influence of crossword puzzle media on students' conceptual understanding and learning motivation on ecosystem material for class X at Al Aziz High School in Bangil.
